Do you have a story to tell about York’s famed ‘Willow Restaurant and Disco’?
The Willow Community Project is creating an online archive of stories, images, and objects relating to this much loved Cantonese restaurant-cum-disco. This digital archive will serve to preserve and share the history of the Willow and to inform York Theatre Royal’s ongoing research into the Willow’s impact on the people of York.
We are holding two meetup events on Saturday 23rd July and Saturday 30th July between 11-3pm at the StreetLife Hub on Coney Street.
So did you manage to nab a bit of Willow memorabilia on the closing night? Did you attend a raucous hen do there in the 80s? Did you have your first Chinese meal there in the 70s? Come along! We want to hear YOUR stories and see YOUR photos and objects!
At the event we will have top Willow hits playing, we will be sharing our research so far, there will be a chance to view a 360° video of the Willow and, of course, prawn crackers!
LONG LIVE THE WILLOW!
This event is free to attend and does not require booking.
