Fossiliam (Dr Liam Herringshaw)

Description

Ammonites in the pebbles, corals in the cobbles, and oysters in the high street? Can you really find fossils on the historic streets of York? Join Fossiliam (palaeontologist Dr Liam Herringshaw) for a York Fossil Hunt and we'll show you, yes you can!

York Fossil Hunts are fun, family-friendly events, which start by the Pebble Mosaic in York Museum Gardens, and last 60-90 minutes, finishing at Minster Yard, in the shadow of York Minster. Booking is essential, and all under-16s must be accompanied. Under-5s are free, but must be booked onto the tour.

The fossil hunt is done entirely on the streets and gardens of York, with step-free access, although the cobbled streets in some parts of the city are not easily accessible for wheelchairs. Everyone who signs up will receive our guide to urban fossil-finding, with a map of York showing good places to hunt.

WARNING: you'll never be able to look at pavements and building stones the same way again!
